My Journey to Creating House of Kibby
About three years ago, my life took an unexpected turn. I was diagnosed with heart failure, and my ejection fraction — a measurement of how well the heart pumps blood — had dropped to a dangerously low 20%. I was immediately hospitalized and faced with the terrifying possibility of needing a heart transplant. It was one of the most challenging and uncertain times of my life. But by the grace of God, I was blessed with an incredible team of doctors who worked tirelessly to stabilize my condition. After several treatments and a long road to recovery, I survived — without a transplant. For that, I am forever grateful.
However, surviving came with its own set of challenges. To stay healthy, I was placed on several lifelong medications. One of the major side effects was severely dry skin — something I hadn’t anticipated, but quickly became a daily struggle. No matter what store-bought products I tried, my skin never felt truly moisturized. In fact, it often felt even drier.
That’s when I started digging into what was actually in the products I was using. What I discovered shocked me: most of the soaps sold in stores aren’t even real soap — they’re actually detergents. These synthetic cleansers are harsh and incredibly drying. True soap, on the other hand, is crafted from natural fats and lye, and is designed to cleanse gently without stripping the skin of its natural moisture. I realized that if I truly wanted to care for my skin, I needed to make a change.
The idea of making my own soap crossed my mind, but I was intimidated. Working with lye — which becomes extremely hot when mixed with liquids — felt scary and complicated. I kept putting it off, telling myself it was too dangerous or too difficult. But deep down, I knew that creating my own natural soap might be the answer I was searching for.
So I dove into research, watching countless soap-making videos on YouTube, trying to build up the courage to give it a try. One creator in particular, Ellen Ruth, became my biggest inspiration. Her calm and encouraging presence helped ease my fears, and her videos gave me the confidence and knowledge I needed. Thank you, Ellen Ruth, for being a guiding light during such a pivotal moment in my life.
Finally, I took the leap. I made my very first batch of soap. I was nervous the entire time, but the moment I unmolded that first bar and held it in my hands, I knew I had found something special. Not only did my skin feel better than it had in years, but I also felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment.
What began as a mission to relieve my dry skin quickly turned into a deep passion for creating beautiful, nourishing body care products. Every product I craft is made with love, intention, and a heartfelt desire to help others care for their skin — especially those who struggle with dryness like I once did.
And that’s how House of Kibby was born. Out of a season of hardship came purpose, healing, and a passion I never expected to find. Today, I’m proud to offer high-quality, luxurious body care products that are thoughtfully formulated to nourish, pamper, and love your skin — just as I would want for myself.
Thank you for being part of my journey. I hope my products bring you as much joy and comfort as they bring me.
